Code Enforcement Gone Wild ! or If You've Got It - Spend it ! In a dramatic change in policy and spending the BCC Code Enforcement Department has purchased 4 of these 2006 Ford F150 trucks with extras galore with your tax dollars. The purchase price including the special graphics package, front winch, sprayed in Rhino lining, running boards, push bar, light package and custom tool box was approximately $29,000.00 each. That is a total cost to you of $116,000. That represents a up charge over non-customized trucks of around $20,000. These are the same county employees that shut down the child lemonade stand on 30-A and had a month long battle with Frosty the Snowman on HWY 98 several years ago. We decided to try and determine why the Code Enforcement Department needs such special street "cruisers". In a discussion with Pat Blackshear concerning these trucks we learned that the money was budgeted and she left the exact configuration of the vehicles to the Code Enforcement Department manager. She stated that she has instituted a new policy that requires her approval when changing from standard vehicles and graphics in the future. We learned that once again no one seems to be watching for extravagant expenditures. Now we must fund the gasoline these 5.4 liter Triton V8 engines are going to burn for the next few years. We also learned that this seems to be a $20,000 waste of your tax dollars. We keep looking for the $6,000 plasma TV and $40,000 Chevy Tahoe's. We haven't found them yet, but there are no policy's that would prevent the expenditure if it's "budgeted". Check your next Tax bill for your share of the purchase and operation of these new "Cruisers".
