Porker of the Month Wall Of Shame 2007 Recipients South Walton Fire District Commissioner's Change Course
At their March monthly meeting the South Walton Fire Commissioner's departed from their past position of serving as a totally volunteer board and gave themselves a choice in how they would be compensated. The Commissioner's have proudly stated in the past that they all served without compensation. That changed when a motion was duly made and seconded and the Board unanimously voted to change the Fire District medical insurance from Principal Financial to Blue Cross Blue Shield, maintain Principal for dental, vision and group term life, "and include a choice to Board members to enroll under both plans or receive $500.00 as reimbursement for obtaining other health insurance". Maurice Gilbert and Vice-Chairman Jack Abbott have opted to add themselves
to the benefits package offered to employee's of the South Walton Fire
District. They were added to the benefits package this month. Commissioner's Harry Millsaps, Brian Christenson, Ed Wright, Michael Stange and Donna Crawford opted to receive monetary compensation in the amount of $500.00 per month for obtaining health insurance. They received their first check this month. The action by the seven (7) Commissioner's now adds approximately $42,000.00 per year to the operating budget of the Fire District. 2006 Reipients The South Walton Fire Commissioners

"Porker of the Month" is a dubious honor given to lawmakers, government officials, or governing boards who have shown a disregard for the interests of taxpayers.
